Logicor, owner, manager and developer of European logistics real estate, completed the construction of a storage facility for protective packaging manufacturer Walki Sp. z o.o.. The development sees Walki take an extra 10,400 sqm, doubling the space it occupies at Logicor Wrocław II, to 21,000 sqm. The completion of the project marks the full development of this strategically located logistics park.
Significant improvements have been made to the warehouse to increase the levels of sustainability. This includes natural lighting of the warehouse, increased power supply capacity of the facility and the highest quality LED lighting with full DALI automation installed.
Walki Sp. z o.o. is a subsidiary of Walki Group Oy, a Finland-based producer of technical laminates and protective packaging materials. The company is a growing international group with operations in 12 different countries, organized in three business areas: Consumer Packaging, Industrial Packaging, and Engineered Materials.
The Wrocław-based facility is one of two Walki Group Oy Polish production plants. The site opened in 2012 and employs 100 people to make wrapping material for the paper industry, as well as barrier lining and flexible packaging material. Walki plans to increase the number of staff it employs by between 50 to 70 people. In the new building, Walki wants to invest in technology that will enable it to make up-to-date ecological packaging and implement the “Transforming materials towards a circular future” strategy.
Walki focuses on extending the product life cycle and embracing resource efficiency by replacing foil with sustainable alternatives.
Bartłomiej Engel, head of production cluster at Walki said: “Several years ago, Walki made a strategic decision to build its presence in Poland. We saw huge growth potential in its consumer and industrial packaging market, and this assumption was right. We constantly look for new ways to expand our business here, hence the new storage facility which – if necessary – can be easily converted into a production plant”.
Ernest Ziółkowski, Head of Project Management CEE W Logicor said: “In response to Walki’s needs and expansion, we have implemented major improvements in the new warehouse. This includes natural lighting of the warehouse, increased power supply capacity of the facility and a new layout tailored to the functions being performed. This allows a flexible approach to the facility’s functionality which can be easily converted to a production function in the future. The highest quality LED lighting with full DALI automation was installed in the warehouse, saving the customer 58% of energy per year.”
Logicor Wrocław II is well connected to local and national transport points. The site is a 15 min drive from Wrocław City Centre, 3 minute drive from the city’s ring road, 300 meters to the nearest bus station, and close to Wrocław Airport. The Park is an established industrial, logistics, and retail area with a mix of tenants.
Poznań-based construction company Pekabex, who Logicor have partnered with previously, was the general contractor.
