The number of building permits for residential buildings issued in January 2024 was 1,829, down 12 percent compared to the same month last year, when there were 2,079, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics. According to the INS, the 1,829 building permits for residential buildings issued in January 2024 covered a total usable area of 421,032 sqm, down 24.8 percent. Of the total building permits for residential buildings, 70.1 percent are for the rural area. Decreases were recorded in the following development regions: Center (-100 permits), South-Muntenia (-86), North-West (-75), Bucharest-Ilfov (-26) and South-West Oltenia (-7) . Increases were registered in the following development regions: South-East (+22 permits), West (+16) and North-East (+6).
For non-residential buildings, in the first month of 2024, 371 building permits were issued, 8.2 percent less compared to January 2023, when 404 permits were issued.
