A private investor is planning to reconstruct an Art Nouveau house in the historic centre of České Budějovice. It will build 23 flats in the building. The cost of the reconstruction is CZK 90 million.

“This is a beautiful Art Nouveau building from the beginning of the last century, so we will do the reconstruction with the utmost respect for the original architecture,” said Martin Jarolím from Cream Group.

The house is located at the intersection of Karla IV. and Kněžská streets, opposite the building of the South Bohemian Philharmonic. It is approximately 100 metres from Přemysl Otakar II Square. “There will be 23 modern flats here, the ground floor will also be reconstructed, where we are still counting on commercial space,” said Jarolím.

The history of the building dates back to the late Gothic period of the 16th century. The dyeing trade had a long tradition in the building. The house was demolished in 1915. The Land Bank was built in its place over the next two years, but it closed down in 1924. During the period of socialist Czechoslovakia, the house was used as a Tuzex shop, and in the 1990s the bank branches returned to the building.

Renovations will begin in March and finish next year. The investor will build flats in layouts ranging from 1+kk to 3+kk.
