Pardubice Region wants to build a new building in an institute in Brandýs n.O.

16 January 2024

The Pardubice Region will commission project documentation for the construction of a building at the Rehabilitation Institute in Brandýs nad Orlicí. It should be used for the services of a comprehensive neurorehabilitation cranioprogramme, i.e. total intensive rehabilitation care for patients with acquired brain damage, for example after ischemic strokes. The service would have 15 to 20 beds, a nurses’ station, an outpatient clinic or 22 physiotherapists’ training rooms, Dominik Barták, spokesman for the regional administration said.

“There would also be space for occupational therapists, rooms for robotic devices, electrotherapy, magnetotherapy, a clinical speech therapist and a psychologist,” said Michaela Matoušková (STAN), deputy governor for health care. The cranioprogramme will be gradually introduced in the rehabilitation institute in the premises that are already available. In the future, more interest in this spectrum of rehabilitation care can be expected, so the region wants to offer patients a new environment with modern equipment.

The total cost of preparation and construction is estimated at CZK 382 million. First, however, it will be necessary to secure its financing and a decision to contract the new capacity of rehabilitation care beds from health insurance companies.

The Pardubice Region has recently invested CZK 28 million in the comprehensive modernisation of the rehabilitation pool at the institute. The old pool was built in the 1960s and no longer met the requirements of the staff and patients. The renovation was followed by the reconstruction of the hydrotherapy room, including the acquisition of modern equipment.

The Rehabilitation Institute Brandýs nad Orlicí was founded in 1898 and is a contributory organisation of the region. Currently it is an accredited medical facility with a capacity of 220 beds including luxuriously equipped barrier-free rooms. The institute provides rehabilitation of patients mainly after surgeries and injuries of the musculoskeletal system, with diseases of the neurological system and also with spine and joint pain.
