Industrial companies in the Plzeň Region with more than 100 employees increased their revenues from the sale of products and services by 13.4 percent year-on-year to more than CZK 199 billion in the first three quarters of last year. At the end of September, 58,200 employees worked in 157 monitored companies, up 1.5 percent year-on-year. The construction sector grew even more strongly in the region, and tourism strengthened by almost eight per cent. Selected indicators of economic development were published today by the Czech Statistical Office in Pilsen.
Basic construction production rose by a quarter year-on-year to more than CZK 7 billion. Of this, civil engineering construction rose by 28 per cent to CZK 5.5 billion, while building construction rose by 13 per cent to CZK 1.34 billion. In the first nine months, construction started on 1,586 apartments, down 29 per cent year-on-year. The number of completed dwellings, on the other hand, rose by 13 per cent to 1,780. Building permits were issued for 4,370, down six per cent.
Meat production (excluding poultry) in the region declined one percent year-over-year to 15,800 metric tons of carcass weight in the three quarters ending in 2023. Pork, which has long led the region, is down four per cent year-on-year to 9,050 tonnes, while beef is up 2.4 per cent.
The number of guests in the region’s accommodation establishments rose 7.7 per cent year-on-year in the first nine months of last year, reporting over 731,000. Of these, 227,500 were foreigners, up by a quarter compared to the previous year.
Statisticians registered 136,839 economic entities in the Pilsen Region at the end of the third quarter of last year, down nine percent year-on-year. The number of natural persons doing business dropped by 12 percent to 102,735. The number of commercial companies, on the other hand, increased by 2.1 percent to 18,728, while the number of cooperatives was 266, down 10 percent year-on-year.
There were 217,500 registered employees in the region at the end of last September, up 1.2 percent year-on-year. Their average gross monthly wage was CZK 40,364, up eight per cent year-on-year. The average gross monthly wage in industry, which is very strong in the region, was CZK 44,260, up 9.3 per cent year-on-year.
The population of the Pilsen region increased by 1.4 percent year-on-year to 611,181 in the three quarters of 2023.
