Ryanair to cut flights from Modlin, moving some traffic to Chopin Airport

21 December 2023

Ryanair will make another 20% cut to its winter schedule of flights from Warsaw Modlin Airport, the carrier said. The cuts introduced today, combined with the 20% reduction announced by the airline in September this year, have resulted in the loss of 15 direct routes from Modlin, as well as a reduction in flights on a further 16 routes. Despite this, Ryanair will continue to offer direct flights to Warsaw on many of these routes (including Bologna, Liverpool, Naples and Vienna), which will now be operated from Chopin Airport. Ryanair will also move 1 base aircraft from Modlin to Krakow for the 2024 summer season.

From next year, Modlin airport will be the only airport in Poland that Ryanair will not develop. This means that Mazovia’s residents will have less access to Ryanair’s direct connections, flights and lowest fares. At the same time, airports such as Chopin, Kraków, Gdańsk, Wrocław, Poznań, Łódź and many others across Poland will benefit from Ryanair’s record traffic and investment thanks to proactive and forward-looking management and shareholders. The inaction of Modlin Airport and its shareholders is negatively impacting the local economy, job creation and communications for Mazovia’s residents, the company announced.

As the largest airline in Poland, Ryanair is actively increasing passenger traffic by offering the lowest air fares. However, this can only be achieved in cooperation with airports and their stakeholders. This cooperation is taking place all over Poland, where next summer Ryanair will base a record number of 42 aircraft (an investment of USD 4.2 billion). Unfortunately, the management of the airport in Modlin, without taking any steps towards the development of infrastructure and new connections, is giving away passenger traffic to other airports far away from Mazovia, the company reported.
