18 December 2023

The Rajhradská – based Smero company, a wholesaler of office supplies and office furniture, plans to build a new 25,000 sqm warehouse near Ledce in the Brno region. It plans to develop a 4.5 hectare site located southeast of the village at the junction of the D52 motorway and Hrušovany u Brna, according to a document on the EIA Information Portal.

Since 2013, the company has been operating in a then newly built hall in the industrial zone in Rajhrad near the D52, which has a floor area of 20,000 sqm, with a warehouse also in Ostrava. It needs a new hall because of its gradual growth. While sales in 2021 were around CZK 475 million, last year they were already CZK 555 million. Profit was CZK 52 million in both years, according to the annual report in the Collection of Deeds.

According to the document, the company would like to build the hall between 2025 and 2027, saying it could lease part of the hall to subcontractors. It also expects a total of 300 people to work in two shifts at the new facility. The number of employees has increased continuously in recent years. In 2019, there were 90 employees and gradually the number rose to 127 at the end of last year. The owners of the company are two men from the southern Brno region.

According to the documentation, it is expected that 180 parking spaces will also be created at the hall, and over 40 vans and over 40 trucks are expected to arrive and leave the premises daily, with only a smaller part of them heading straight to the D52 motorway. The rest of the cars are to go in other directions. The hall is to stand at the junction of third-class roads, but the road from Ledec to the south served as a first-class road from Brno to Pohořelice before the motorway was built.
