Tusk: We confirmed readiness to cooperate and form a majority in the new parliament

Civic Platform (PO), together with the Poland 2050-Polish People’s Party coalition and the New Left, have confirmed their readiness to “fully cooperate” and form a new majority in the future parliament, said PO Chairman Donald Tusk, who is expected to be named by the parties as their candidate for prime minister.

“Today, together with the leaders of the democratic parties, we confirmed the readiness to fully cooperate and form a new majority in the future parliament,” he said. Tusk said at a briefing held jointly with Poland 2050-PSL coalition leaders Szymon Holownia and Władysław Kosiniak -Kamysz and New Left leader Włodzimierz Czarzasty.

For today and tomorrow, President Andrzej Duda has announced consultations with representatives of the electoral committees that will have representation in the 10th term of the Sejm. The meetings will be held in order according to the results achieved in the elections.

During the briefing, all leaders declared their readiness to form a parliamentary majority and government.

“I wanted to thank my colleagues very much for this declaration that we are forming a majority in parliament. With this information, I will be able to I today, colleagues – tomorrow, go to President [Andrzej] Duda and reassure the president and make it easier for him, I think, in terms of the next constitutional steps. We are ready to form a government,” Tusk stressed.

“Thank you for confirming the declaration that the leader of the largest party in these elections on the opposition side will be given, certainly a difficult mission, to form a government, but this, of course, depends on the president and the situation,” he said.

He also declared his readiness to prepare the work of the Sejm and the Senate. Similar declarations were also made by Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz (PSL), Szymon Holownia (Poland 2050) and Wlodzimierz Czarzasty (New Left).

In the elections to the Sejm, Law and Justice (PiS) received 35.38% of the vote, while KO came in second with 30.7%. Third place went to the Third Way with 14.4% of the vote, followed by the New Left with 8.61%, and the Confederation with 7.16%.
