Biedronka opened 29 new outlets and 30 newly renovated stores in September, the company said. Since September, residents of 15 provinces can shop at the chain’s new and renovated stores.
In September, Biedronka opened 29 new outlets in Pomorskie, Wielkopolskie, Mazowieckie, Warmińsko-Mazurskie, Lubuskie, Zachodniopomorskie, Śląskie, Małopolskie, Dolnośląskie, Łódzkie, Lubelskie and Podkarpackie provinces, among others. The average size of the outlets is about 700 sqm, it stated.
“We always strive to meet the expectations and needs of our customers, allowing them even easier access to the items they need. That’s why, in September alone, we opened as many as 29 new outlets in various regions of Poland and modernized as many as 30, bringing them up to the environmentally friendlier, modern 3.0 standard. We are also looking for more solutions to improve the convenience of our customers, including by introducing traditional counters and steadily increasing the number of self-service checkouts,” said Biedronka’s chief operating officer and board member Pawel Stolecki
Biedronka renovated 30 outlets in September, and the remodels are primarily a reduction in heat and electricity consumption or a new layout of store space. All stores were designed in accordance with the 3.0 standard, among others, with solutions such as LED lighting and lockable refrigerated racks using CO2 gas. In 2022, in all renovated outlets of the chain, Biedronka reduced average energy consumption by 14% from nearly 48.5 million kWh to just over 41.7 million kWh, reducing CO2 emissions by 667.3 t CO2eq, the company announced.
The company said that the 29 new outlets included those in the ultra-mini format, which are being built in urban spaces with high traffic, and are characterized by a small footprint that ranges from 200 to a maximum of 500 sqm, and are most often located in office buildings or apartment blocks in the middle of large estates.
In the first half of this year, the Biedronka chain opened 50 stores (37 net) and remodeled 164 locations, increasing the chain to 3,432 outlets at the end of June. The total area of the stores was 2.42 million sqm at the end of June this year, compared to 2.27 million sqm a year earlier.
