JTI increases investment in Polish factories to total $1.3 billion

27 September 2023

Japan Tobacco International’s (JTI) total investment in the group’s Polish factories reaches a total of nearly $1.3 billion as a result of its latest investment of about $200 million in a novel tobacco products factory, JTI Poland factory operations director Yan Sobolevskyy said.

“The launch of the production of tobacco cartridges for Ploom X for the Polish market, as well as for other European countries, contributes to the development of the JTI factory in Poland. This year alone, we have increased employment by more than 100 people, and the value of investment in the innovative tobacco factory has exceeded $200 million. This is JTI’s only such factory outside Japan, and we expect further significant investments in the production of novelty products and in the entire production center in Stary Gostkov,” said Sobolevskyy.

The market for heated tobacco products in Poland is growing rapidly and now accounts for more than 10% of the total tobacco market, and in Warsaw it is already more than 25%. Its value is estimated at PLN 4.8 billion. The innovative tobacco products factory in Stare Gostkow near Lodz is increasing production of tobacco cartridges for Ploom X devices to meet the growing demand for these products in Poland and around the world, company officials said.

“JTI Poland is the second largest tobacco company in the country, and I am convinced that by expanding into the fast-growing category of novelty tobacco products, our position in Poland will be even stronger. That’s why this is the perfect time to enter the Polish market with Japan’s innovative Ploom X tobacco heating technology,” added JTI Polska CEO Edoardo Voletti.

Japan Tobacco Group plans to invest 300 billion yen in the global expansion of heated tobacco products between 2023 and 2025. JTI has been present in Poland since 2007 and has since invested nearly $1.3 billion in our country. Currently, the company has 4 state-of-the-art plants, where it manufactures almost all categories of tobacco products. In 2019, the company also opened a Global Business Services Center in Warsaw. JTI Group’s total employment in Poland is more than 3,400 people.
