Olomouc City Council approved a memorandum on the transfer of Haná barracks

4 September 2023

The Olomouc City Council today approved a memorandum on cooperation with the Regional Government and Palacký University in the application for the transfer of the large Hanácké barracks building in the historic centre of Olomouc from the state to the region. The Office for State Representation in Property Matters failed to find a buyer for the building even in four electronic auctions. The Olomouc Region has recently allocated CZK 1 million for surveys and a study on the reconstruction and possible use of Haná barracks.

“I am glad that after years of discussions we have reached an agreement between three public institutions so that we can continue to make decisions,” Mayor Miroslav Žbánek (ANO) told councillors today. In September, the Olomouc Regional Council will also discuss the memorandum, which, according to the mayor, will give the local authorities a mandate to further prepare for the intended transfer of Haná barracks, also in view of the regional elections next year, which may change the composition of the regional council. According to Deputy Mayor Tomáš Pejpek (ProOlomouc and Pirates), the conditions for the gratuitous transfer of state property have changed. The interested party must still declare its intended use, but is not bound by deadlines.
