Housing construction starts in the Pardubice region fell by a third in the first half of the year

31 August 2023

Builders in the Pardubice Region started construction of 927 flats in the first half of this year, down by almost a third compared to the same period last year. Completed flats in the region increased slightly year-on-year, according to data from the Czech Statistical Office in Pardubice.

New construction outpaced the modernisation of the existing housing stock. New buildings accounted for about two-fifths of the total and had the third highest share among the regions.

Despite the year-on-year decline, the region’s half-year results in housing starts were the third best in the last ten years. Nationally, builders also started fewer homes, by one-fifth. Among the districts of the Pardubice Region, construction starts rose only in the Orlickoústec region, while in the other three districts they fell.

749 flats were completed in the first half of the year, which is the second highest value achieved in the last ten years. In 2021 alone, builders in the region completed 891 flats. Compared to last half year, housing construction is up nearly 12 percent. The highest year-on-year growth was in the Chrudim region. New flats represented one fifth of the completed construction.
