A judicial house will be built in the Benešov barracks, it will serve not only the court

10 August 2023

A court house will be built in the Benešov barracks in 2025. The district court, the prosecutor’s office and the probation and mediation service will move there. The building has been unused since 2018 and was previously used as a hostel. Today, the company officially took over the construction site, with work starting in full in September. The redevelopment should be completed within 18 months and will cost CZK 163 million. The functioning of the court and other institutions will be more efficient and economical after the relocation and there will be sufficient capacity for storing files, Deputy Justice Minister Radomír Daňhel announced today.

The merger of the institutions into one place will save costs, improve and simplify their cooperation, and the new premises will be barrier-free and will meet other standards, for example, for entrances to the court building and the like. There will be 58 offices, eight meeting rooms and a sufficiently large filing room. At present, the court premises are insufficient for storing files and have to be rented; once the courthouse is completed, the complications with the logistics of files will be eliminated. “Furthermore, we will not be paying the rent that we are forced to pay for the filing rooms here in the district court,” Daňhel added.

According to Daňhel, costs such as heating, judicial guards and commuting will also decrease. The court will add 43 parking spaces for employees and the public. The Justice Ministry will offer the district court building to other state institutions after the move. The Benešov court has about 65 employees, the prosecutor’s office has 14 and the probation and mediation service employs five people.

The building in Dukelská Street belongs to the state. The Ministry of Justice took it over last year; in the past, the customs administration wanted to relocate part of its agenda to it, and until 2016 the building served as a hostel for the needs of the Ministry of Defence.
