In the first five months of the year, 14,122 building permits were issued for residential buildings, down 24.5 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the National Institute of Statistics.
Decreases were recorded in all development regions: Bucharest-Ilfov (-1,007 authorizations), North-West (-792), South-Muntenia (-700), West (-547), North-East (-441), South-East (-417), South-West Oltenia (-395) and Center (-274).
In May 2023, 3,449 building permits were issued for residential buildings (+28.8 percent compared to April 2023), with a total usable area of 753,338 sqm (+29.3 percent). Of the total building permits for residential buildings, 69.4 percent are for the rural area.
