Construction industry in the Hradec Králové Region increased by eight percent last year

2 May 2023

The output of the largest construction companies in the Hradec Králové Region rose by 7.9 percent year-on-year to CZK 2.91 billion last year. In the Czech Republic, however, this was a below-average result, as the construction industry nationwide grew by 16.9 percent. The data refer to companies with more than 50 employees. This is based on preliminary data from the Czech Statistical Office.

Despite the growth in performance, the largest construction companies in the Hradec Králové Region made redundancies. Last year they reduced the number of workers by seven percent to 1,408 people. The productivity of construction firms thus increased by 16 percent despite the growth in performance and the reduction in the number of workers.

The average gross wage of employees in the region’s construction industry rose by 2.5 percent year-on-year to CZK 32,198 last year. Wages continued to lag far behind the national average, with the second lowest average wage among the regions after the Karlovy Vary Region. Across the country, wages in the construction sector rose by 7.4 percent year-on-year to CZK 45,357.

In the regional comparison, the value of construction production in the Hradec Králové Region was below average at 13th place. Only construction companies in the Karlovy Vary Region had a lower performance. The reason for the low construction production in the Hradec Králové Region is that there is no large construction company that builds motorways or other large constructions with its own people.
