Part of the leadership of Ústí nad Orlicí wants to push for a reduction in the coefficient for calculating property tax in the town. The association Oušťáci had this item in its election programme. It is not yet clear whether the other coalition partners will agree with the proposal. The association will present it to the councillors at a meeting in April or June, Mayor Petr Hájek (Oušťáci) announced..
“The economic situation is getting worse for people because of increased energy costs. The city will compensate for the shortfall in the budget with increased revenue from the newly installed radar on the I/14 throughway, from which considerable funds are coming into our coffers,” Hájek said.
The city currently has a coefficient of two, which Hájek said should be reduced to one. The reduction would represent a shortfall of about eight million crowns a year. For this year, councillors approved a budget with revenues of CZK 430 million and expenditures of CZK 527 million.
In Ústí nad Orlicí, the property tax has doubled since January 2020, when councillors approved an increase in the coefficient to a value of two; it can take on a value of up to five. At the time, the city justified the increase by higher mandatorial and operational costs.
