Poland: Exports to Germany rose 15.3% y/y – Euro exports up 19.3% y/y – Inflation was 17.2% y/y

Polish exports to Germany increased by 15.3% y/y to €95.6 billion in January-December 2022, while imports in the period rose by 21.1% y/y to €73.4 billion, the Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported.

Germany’s share of exports decreased by 1 percentage point year-on-year to 27.8%, while its share of imports fell by 0.7 percentage points to 20.2%. The positive balance amounted to 103.8 billion zlotys ($23.3 billion, 22.2 billion euros) compared to 101.7 billion zlotys ($26.4 billion, 22.3 billion euros) in the same period of 2021, it was also reported.

Turnover with our top ten trading partners accounted for 65.6% of exports (64.5% in the same period of 2021), and total imports – 62.5% (vs. 65.1% in January-December 2021).

In January-December 2022, among Poland’s main trading partners, there was no decline in exports or imports compared to the same period of 2021, with the exception of Russia, where there was a decline in imports, the Office also reported.

GUS: Euro exports up 19.3% y/y, imports up 25.6% y/y in 2022.

Exports rose 19.3% y/y to €343.8 billion in January-December 2022, while imports increased 25.6% y/y to €363.7 billion in the period, the Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported.

The negative balance amounted to €19.8 billion, compared to minus €1.5 billion in January-December 2021.

Exports expressed in U.S. dollars amounted to $363.3 billion, and imports amounted to $384.3 billion (an increase of 6.2% in exports and 11.9% in imports, respectively). The negative balance amounted to $21.0 billion, and amounted to minus $1.5 billion in the corresponding period of 2021.

Since May 1, 2004, in addition to data from SAD customs documents, foreign trade statistics has used, as part of turnover with European Union member states, INTRASTAT declarations.

GUS: Inflation was 17.2% y/y in January according to preliminary data; consensus: 17.6% y/y

Consumer inflation was 17.2% year-on-year in January 2023, according to preliminary data, the Central Statistical Office (CSO) said. Compared to the previous month, consumer prices rose 2.4% in January, GUS also reported.

According to preliminary data, in January 2023, prices of consumer goods and services increased by 17.2% compared to the same month last year. Compared to the previous month, prices of goods and services increased by 2.4%.

The prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose 20.7% y/y, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products rose 9.9%, housing – rose 22.3% y/y, including energy carriers – rose 34%, transport prices increased 16% y/y – including fuels for private transportation vehicles – rose 18.7%.

On a monthly basis, prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose 1.9% m/m, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products rose 1.2%, housing – rose 6% m/m, including energy carriers rose 10.4%, transportation fell 0.5% m/m – including fuels for private transportation vehicles remained unchanged.

The market consensus was 17.6% y/y and 2.8% m/m.
