Investment in the growing Emil Kolben Prague district is over a billion crowns

6 December 2022

The investment in the Alfred house, which will close the second of five stages of the residential project in the Emil Kolben district in Prague, will cost more than CZK 1 billion. The energy-efficient building will cover 11,000 square metres, offer 179 apartments and is scheduled for completion in 2025, Skanska announced.

Named after Emil Kolben’s younger brother, the Alfred House will have ten floors. Skanska will use photovoltaic panels here for the first time, and the company says Alfred will be a quarter more energy-efficient than a conventional building.

“The biggest impact is the thoroughly insulated building envelope and the photovoltaic panels with an installed capacity of ten kilowatts. These will provide enough energy to light the common areas and ventilate the apartments with central exhaust air. If an amendment to the energy law comes into force in January, we will investigate even wider integration of solar panels,” said Skanska Residential project manager Martin Horálek.

The Emil Kolben Quarter is being built on a brownfield site in Vysočany, where industrial complexes and factory halls were located in the past. The project will offer a total of 1,069 flats in five phases on an area of 51,000 sqm. In 2020, the construction of the first phase was completed with the Greta, Lily and Malvína buildings. in the second phase, the Jindřich and Hanuš buildings are finished, which will be complemented by Alfred. The houses are named after members of Emil Kolben’s family. Emil Kolben’s artistically rendered columns are in the common areas and part of the wayfinding system throughout the neighborhood.
