UPS Healthcare doubles space in Ostrava

10 November 2022

UPS has more than doubled the size of its UPS Healthcare logistics centre in Ostrava, creating up to 50 new jobs. The 6,000 sqm extension, which complies with Good Distribution Practice (GDP) requirements, houses temperature-controlled facilities for the transport and storage of medicines and biologicals sensitive to temperature fluctuations.

“Our customers operate in one of the fastest growing healthcare markets in the world and their next-generation products require superior service. Not only are we investing to meet our customers’ needs for quality end-to-end solutions, we are also supporting local communities and creating new jobs,” said Fredrik Jansson, UPS Healthcare Europe’s General Manager for Central and Eastern Europe.

“The success of the Ostrava centre and the growing demand for the transport of pharmaceutical and medical products has necessitated more than doubling the size of our centre. I would like to thank the staff at the Ostrava centre for their tremendous efforts and support,” said Katerina Kuhnová, Director of UPS Healthcare in Ostrava.

The logistics centre in the heart of Central and Eastern Europe offers better access to the fast-growing Eastern European markets and provides pharmaceutical and medical device customers in the Czech Republic with another direct link between Europe and the global UPS network.

The Ostrava facility, originally 3,800 m2, opened last October and is the first UPS logistics centre focused on the healthcare segment in the country. The expansion of the centre will enable customers to reduce transport times, increase flexibility and ensure distribution of medicines and pharmaceutical products to Slovakia, Poland and Hungary.

Thanks to innovations in biologics, specialty pharmaceuticals and personalized medicine, approximately 80 percent of pharmaceutical products in Europe now require temperature-controlled transport. UPS continues to invest in response to this trend.

Recently, UPS announced plans to acquire Bomi Group, which has temperature-controlled centers in 14 countries in Europe and Latin America and nearly 3,000 highly skilled professionals. With this approved acquisition, which is expected to be completed by 2023, UPS Healthcare will more than double the size of its centers by 2020.

The campus expansion will also strengthen the UPS Premier express delivery service, which is based on modern technology. Advanced sensor technologies enable the modernization of shipments while guaranteeing a priority shipping lane in the UPS global network.
