Housing construction in the Zlín region increased slightly year-on-year in H1 2022

Housing construction in the Zlín region increased slightly year-on-year in this half-year. There was an increase in the number of started constructions and completed apartments. From January to June, 842 apartments were built in the region, which is 1.6 percent more than in the first half of last year. There were 681 completed apartments, which means a year-on-year increase of 3.7 percent. This follows from the data of the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ).

Over the whole of last year, there was a slight increase in the number of apartment constructions started in the Zlín Region. Builders started building 1,793 apartments, which was 5.6 percent more year-on-year. The number of apartment construction starts last year was the second highest since 2007, when 2,010 apartments were built. Since then, the most of them was in 2019, when the construction of 1,860 apartments started, which meant a year-on-year increase of almost 25 percent. The year before last, housing construction in the region fell, and the construction season was also affected by the coronavirus pandemic. There were 1,469 completed apartments last year, 0.6 percent less than the previous year.

Of the 842 apartments started in this half-year, 712 were new construction and 130 were alterations to already completed buildings. The largest number of apartments started to be built in family houses, namely 620. The largest number of apartments started out of the four districts in the region was in Zlín, where 284 apartments started to be built. Apartments are now being built, for example, in several places in the regional city of Zlín, including on the waterfront by the Dřevnice river or in Lorencová street.

Of the 681 completed apartments in the region, 609 were newly built. The most completed apartments were in the Zlín region, 239. The fewest apartments were completed in the Kroměříž region, namely 130.

The construction of 22,713 apartments started in the first six months of this year in the Czech Republic, which meant a year-on-year increase of 9.6 percent. 17,403 apartments were completed in the country, 2.6 percent more than in the first half of last year.
