Conversion of former Česká pojišťovna building in Česká Lípa into an office will begin mid-September

The reconstruction of the former insurance company building in the center of Česká Lípa into the municipal office will begin in mid-September and will take about a year. The town hall will pay CZK 85.5 million for the reconstruction, approximately 15 percent of which will be paid from the received subsidy according to city spokeswoman Kristýna Kňákal Brožová.

The building in U Synagogy Street was built in the 1990s for Česká pojišťovna. However, it has been empty and dilapidated for the past eight years. The city bought it in 2019 for 18 million crowns from a private owner who was in bankruptcy. “A new office of the Českolips municipal office will be created in the building, all counter workplaces, approx. 60 officials, will move here,” said the spokeswoman of the city.

When acquiring the building, the town hall estimated that up to ten million crowns would be enough for the necessary modifications, but the building needs major renovation. It will thus receive a total reconstruction, including the replacement of windows, doors, insulation of the roof and the facade of the building. “The new office will be a modern public barrier-free building with low operating costs, for example we are counting on the installation of photovoltaic panels and a rainwater management system,” said the mayor of Česká Lípa, Jitka Volfová (ANO). The city received a subsidy of CZK 12.7 million from the State Environmental Fund for the proposed energy-saving measures.

The construction company that will carry out the reconstruction was selected twice by the city. The city hall canceled the first selection procedure because seven applicants did not meet the conditions and the eighth resigned himself. The repeat competition was won by the local company CL-EVANS. According to a city spokeswoman, they offered a price that is slightly lower than what they expected at City Hall.
