Brumov-Bylnice is building another section of the Bevlava cycle path, to the border with Slovakia

1 September 2022

At the end of June, the town of Brumov-Bylnice in the Zlín Region began to build another section of the Bevlava cycle path, towards the border with Slovakia. It is a section from the railway crossing in the local part of Svatý Štěpán to the local road in the local part of Sidonie, Stanislav Dubčák, head of the city’s department of tourism, culture and sport, it was announced.

The Bevlava international cycle path, with a planned length of about 50 kilometers, wants to connect the Bečva, Vlára and Váh basins, its name comes from the names of the given rivers. It is gradually being built by a free association of the municipalities of Hornolidečsk, Valašské Klobuck and Slovak municipalities.

The new section in Brumov-Bylnice should be completed next year, the cycle path will thus be extended by almost 800 meters. In Sidonia, the route will connect with the Slovak part of the cycle route in the future.

“The construction of cycle paths in the city began with the implementation of the first section in 2009. Gradually, other sub-sections were built – both in Valašské Klobouky, and in the direction of the state border with the Slovak Republic, up to the local part of Svatý Štěpán. This year, the Bevlava cycle path was also connected in the direction to the neighboring village of Štítná nad Vláří – Popov,” said Dubčák.

The core section of the cycle path in the city is the part between Bylnica and Svatý Štěpán, over three kilometers long. The section was built as part of cross-border cooperation with the Trenčín region in 2019. The investment on the Czech side required almost CZK 67 million, the subsidy was over CZK 47 million. In Slovakia, a trail was created between Nemšová and Trenčín.

The mayor of Brumova-Bylnice Kamil Macek (KDU-ČSL) is happy that the trail was built. “Thanks to this joint project, local residents and tourists get to know the nature and history of both border regions during their bike tours, and we are very pleased that the city of Brumov-Bylnice is increasingly becoming a destination not only for cyclists,” said the mayor. A counter was placed in the section, in the first month 13,185 people passed through the area.

This year in May, the construction of the second stage of the Bevlava cycle path on the territory of the Hornolidečska municipalities was also started. The 11-kilometer long section should be completed by the end of next year. It is a section from the village of Lužná to Valašské Příkazy. The section of Bevlava from Valašské Klobouk to Brumov-Bylnice was also completed earlier.
