Up to 1,900 flats could be added to the locality in Kaményky in Brno for several billion crowns, according to the mayor’s deputy Jiří Oliva (ČSSD). Of these, 600 could be cooperative, which should be completed in 2028. The city has several places for the development of cooperative housing, where about 1,400 cooperative flats are to be built. He is already founding the first three teams – Kamenný vrch, Francouzská and V Aleji.

In the Černovice district in the Na Kaménkách area, the city cooperates with IMOS, which owns part of the land. “According to a study we commissioned, up to 1,900 flats could be built here. Of these, up to 1,200 on municipal land. At this stage, we are preparing to build 600 cooperative flats,” said Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).

Oliva (ČSSD) stated that it is the largest development locality in which Brno owns a substantial part. “Thousands of flats will be built there. I am glad that we have almost doubled the number of cooperative flats and we have decided to include 500 flats in the affordable housing construction program in cooperation with the private sector,” Oliva said. He added that together with the West Gate site, these are two places for which the city will select a partner through a concession procedure.

The goal of cooperative housing is to help people who do not get a mortgage but have the opportunity to repay. The city will form a cooperative with them, which will take out a mortgage for the construction. Last year, Brno raised the age from 36 to 45 for the possibility of applying for cooperative housing. In addition to age, people must also meet certain income conditions. For apartments of different sizes, there is a minimum and maximum limit that an individual or two partners must receive together as income. The minimum for the smallest apartment is CZK 35,000, the maximum for the largest apartment is CZK 100,000.
