Thanks to a new production line worth CZK 25 million, the production capacity of sensors in the Brno plant of the global technology company ABB will double by 2026. The reason for the expansion is the growing demand for high-voltage sensors, the company announced.
ABB has been building a new 8,000 sqm hall for the production of high-voltage switchgear at its Brno plant since the autumn, and has now also announced an expansion of sensor production. “Investments to increase sensor production are aimed at modernizing technology. Although the growth of sensor production was supported by the previous expansion of ABB switchgear production in Brno, the main factors of increasing demand are switchboard digitization and development of renewable energy sources,” said Petr Neumann, Director of Instrument Transformers and Sensors. .
The company has invested CZK 25 million in the new production line, and the scope and pace of production should double after its completion in 2026, up to 100,000 pieces per year.
“Our advanced sensors help customers ensure a secure and sustainable energy supply 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The new production line in Brno is responding to growing demand for digital switchboards and more massive enforcement of more renewable energy sources. Demand has doubled since 2018,” Neumann added.
The Brno plant was founded in 1887 and has seven separate units in two areas in Vídeňská and Heršpická streets, employing 2,000 people. It includes a plant for the production of instrument transformers and sensors and the largest plant for the production of high-voltage switchboards in Europe. ABB employs around 110,000 people worldwide in more than 100 countries.
