Retail chain Globus saw its net profit in Czechia fall annually by 44 percent to CZK 223.7 million in the fiscal year ending in June 2021, and its sales dropped by 3 percent yr/yr to CZK 23.4bn, according to the company’s annual report.
The company’s results were affected by anti-epidemic restrictions.
Globus established cooperation with meal delivery services last year. On the other hand, it had to close its small shop Fresh in Prague.
The company resumed and updated its old expansion project, planning to introduce two new shop formats, small butcher’s shops and food trucks at parking lots.
Globus runs 15 hypermarkets in Czechia. In Pardubice, eastern Bohemia, it runs a Fresh shop. Its network also includes filling stations.
The company employed 5,300 people on average in 2020/2021, about 150 fewer year on year. Its wage costs amounted to about CZK 2bn.
Lidl, the largest food retail chain in Czechia, netted CZK 5.1bn and generated sales worth CZK 73.2bn in 2020/2021.
Other large retailers on the Czech market include Kaufland, Albert, Penny Market, Tesco and Billa.
