Škoda Auto has 13 car parts manufacturers in Ukraine, which has been invaded by Russia. For example, it lacks components for cable harnesses or switching modules. In the first phase, the supply disruption will affect the Enyaq iV electric SUV, the production of which has been temporarily suspended. Further restrictions can be gradually expected for other models due to the situation in Ukraine. This was stated today by the weekly Škodovácký odborář.
“Due to the war in Ukraine, of course, some production plants have closed in the affected area and cross-border logistics are almost completely reduced. However, Škoda has some direct suppliers and subcontractors in Ukraine. There are a total of 13 manufacturers,” the unions said.
The Enyaq iV is produced on the same line as the Octavia model, which continues to be manufactured. However, incomplete cars are coming off the line due to missing door panels after the January fire at Grupo Antoli in Mladá Boleslav, which is one of Škoda’s suppliers.
According to the unions, canceled shifts are already increasing this week, and the situation will be worse next week. “Once again, we negotiated a barrier to work for the employees concerned in the amount of 80 percent of the average wage, which represents daily earnings,” said Jaroslav Povšík, Chairman of the Works Council.
Škoda is now looking for available parts supply alternatives that would help prevent adverse effects on production in the Czech Republic. Superb, Kodiaq, Karoq and Fabia Combi cars are produced directly in Ukraine. Production in Ukraine is provided by Eurocar’s business partner. Production of Škoda cars is currently suspended at the Solomonovo plant. “The cars manufactured at the Solomonovo plant are intended only for customers on the Ukrainian market,” said the carmaker.
