“After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, increased border traffic was observed, the Polish-Ukrainian border from Ukraine was observed yesterday and today by 15.00 exceeded a total of over 56,000 people,” said Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration Paweł Bossernaker. The waiting time for check-in is several hours.
“You can see increased traffic on the Polish-Ukrainian border in the last two days, during yesterday the Polish-Ukrainian border from Ukraine was exceeded by 31,000 people, today by 3:00 pm more than 25,000 people,” Bossernaker said during a press conference.
The waiting time at many crossings is several hours, the longest at the crossing in Dorohusk. According to the estimates of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration (Ministry of Interior and Administration), it may be more than 24 hours. By the decision of the chief commander of the Border Guard, pedestrian traffic is open to all crossings from the south.
“If someone reaches the border from the Ukrainian side and switches to pedestrian traffic there, I guarantee that they will be cleared by the Polish Border Guard. There is no such situation that the Polish Border Guard would not check people on foot,” emphasized Szefernaker.
The vast majority of people who cross the border are women and children (men of recruiting age are subject to mobilization).
According to the Szefernaker, nine reception points have been opened, eight at the border crossing and one at the railway station in Przemyśl. So far, about 800 people have used them.
From tomorrow, information points for Ukrainian citizens will be open at railway stations in district capital cities. In Warsaw, such points will be located at Warszawa Wschodnia and Zachodnia stations and at the Okęcie airport.
Polish citizens and people of Polish origin with a Polish Card are checked out of sequence.
