Romanian inflation rate increased in January by 8.4% y / y

The inflation rate rose to 8.4percent in January 2022 compared to the same period last year, continuing the upward trend recorded in December 2021, when the annual inflation rate increased by 8.2 percent, according to data published by National Institute of Statistics.

The increase came with 10.18 percent advance in non-food prices, while food prices rose by 7.24 percent. In the case of services, prices increased by 5.66 percent compared to January 2021. By category, natural gas tariffs increased by 60.9 percent, while energy increased by 21.5 percent.

The Romanian National Bank announced in this year’s quarterly report that it forecasts annual inflation of 9.6 percent in December 2022, with a peak in April.
