The footfall of shops in shopping centers in January 2022 decreased by 54% compared to January 2019 and by 61% compared to January last year, the Association of Polish Trade and Service Employers (ZPPHiU) reported .

The results of January are depressing. It was a very poor month for the vast majority of companies affiliated to ZPPHiU. As compared to January 2019, the average decrease in the number of visits to galleries in Poland was -54% and the decrease in the number of individual customers was -52%. in 2021, the decrease in the number of visits was -61%, and the decrease in unique customers -60%. The obvious consequence is the decrease in turnover and profitability of maintaining outlets in shopping centers. , many locations lose their business sense, according to the report.

The peak of the fifth coronavirus wave consolidates changes in the area of ​​consumer habits. Customers of shopping centers come back to them almost exclusively for specific targeted purchases, thus reducing the time spent in retail spaces to a minimum. Often it is a visit only to pick up a shipment ordered online, i.e. as a result of direct actions of commercial companies. Shopping centers have still not found a way to convince customers that it is worth shopping again as before the pandemic, it also reported.
