Poland should reach the pre-pandemic level of air traffic by the end of 2023

If the current pace of air traffic recovery continues, Poland should reach or even exceed the pre-pandemic level at the end of 2023, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Marcin Horała said. According to the forecasts of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the number of passengers in air traffic in Poland should exceed 100 million in 2041.

“If this pace of reconstruction of the [aviation] market continues in 2024, by the end of 2023 we should approach or even exceed the pre-pandemic level,” said Horała on radio Jedynka.

Referring to the forecasts of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), he indicated that “2024 is the year for Poland, when we will finish recovering losses and the market will continue to grow, it will grow dynamically”.

“This forecast also says that in 2041 we will exceed 100 million air passengers in Poland, that is, we will more than double what was before the pandemic,” he added.

The report of the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PANSA), prepared on the basis of own data and Eurocontrol, shows that the number of air operations at all Polish airports in 2021 amounted to 297,648, which means an increase by 53% y / y, but a decrease by 33% compared to the level from 2019 (444,661 in 2019).

Forecasts prepared by IATA predict that air traffic will return to the pre-pandemic level, i.e. to approx. 50 million passengers, in 2024. In 2040 it is to be approx. 100 million, and in 2060, according to the baseline scenario, more than 140 million passengers.
