The Czech Television website is facing a massive hacker attack and is mostly unavailable. The reason for the DDoS attack, which overwhelms the servers, is probably today’s start of the Winter Olympics (Olympic Games) in Beijing. Czech Television stated on Twitter.
“The Olympics are starting today. And that’s probably why our websites are facing a really massive DDoS attack. We’re doing what we can, but please be lenient … If you wanted to join HbbTV CT or try one of our mobile applications, today Unfortunately, it’s not a good day. Apart from the failure of ČT’s websites, the applications don’t work either either. We’re trying to get everything up and running until the start of the Olympics, but we can’t guarantee it yet. Thanks for your understanding, keep your fingers crossed!” stated by ČT on its official twitter account.
The Czech Television homepage failed to reach around 11:00. The i-Broadcasting and live broadcasting pages also reported an error, while the ČT24 website worked.
At the end of January, the National Office for Cyber Security warned against cyber attacks on targets in the Czech Republic. He linked them to the situation in Ukraine. In the case of the media, according to the office, DDoS attacks are more likely. In a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, hackers try to flood the network with an unusually high volume of data traffic in order to paralyze it so that it cannot handle the amount of data required.
