T-Mobile Polska is starting to completely disable 3G technology in the commercial network to speed up data transfer in LTE and 5G networks, the operator said.
T-Mobile plans to switch off 3G technology at 56 base stations in Ostrowiec, Starachowice and Opatów poviats. This is the first step to completely switch off this obsolete technology and allocate the frequencies recovered in this way to accelerate LTE and 5G networks, according to its announcement.
The shutdown of 3G over a large coherent area of the commercial network is most likely the last test before the mass shutdown of 3G across the entire commercial network of TMobile, the company stated.
T-Mobile plans to allocate the frequencies in the 900 MHz range recovered in this way to increase the speed obtained by customers in LTE and 5G networks and their capacity. Regardless of the decision in this regard, allocating the free bandwidth to more popular technologies may translate into an increase in transmission speed. data by over 10%, the company announced.
The shutdown of 3G networks is a natural step in the development of mobile communication technology, it said.
Currently, customers mainly use LTE and 5G networks, in which 97% of all data used by customers is sent. More than half of telephone calls are made in VoLTE technology, which operates based on LTE data transmission. 3G remains largely empty and less used every week. For more than a year now, all new phone models offered to customers by TMobile support both LTE and VoLTE, it said.
Customers who have SIM cards older than 7 years (may not support LTE) can exchange them for free at T-Mobile showrooms and stores.
