Pilsen Region sees 31,000 apartment buildings grow to more than 144,000 in 30 years

In the Pilsen region, which has a population of over 590,000, almost 31,000 apartment buildings have been added in 30 years, bringing the total number to more than 144,000. This is 6.1 percent of the total number of residential and family houses in the Czech Republic. The number is the fifth lowest out of 14 regions after the Karlovy Vary, Liberec, Prague and Pardubice regions. There are over 107,500 apartment buildings in Prague. This follows from the first results of last year’s census of population, houses and flats, which were published by the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ). Over the last ten years, the number of residential and family houses in the Pilsen Region has increased by approximately 13,000, and in the entire country by almost 195,000 residential houses.

With a current population of 590,250, the Pilsen Region ranks eighth out of all 14 regions.

The strongest group of apartment building owners in the Pilsen Region are individuals, who own 89 percent of residential buildings, ie more than 128,000 buildings. In the whole country, slightly over 88 percent of apartment and family houses are owned by natural persons. The state or municipalities in the Pilsen region own 3179 residential houses (2.2 pct), housing cooperatives hold 317 buildings (0.2 pct), other legal entities 2759 houses, co-ownership of apartment owners are registered statistics in 8969 cases and 186 apartment houses are according to the results of the ČSÚ combined ownership census.

In the whole of the Czech Republic, out of the total number of 2,353,025 houses, over 41,500 residential buildings own 1.8 percent, housing cooperatives hold 0.6 percent of residential houses, other legal entities are owners in 2.4 percent, co-ownership of apartment owners is 6.2 percent of apartment buildings and 4,300 houses are in combined ownership.
