Brno received 202 investment projects in schools of various founders in the city. The volume of required investments is almost 6.8 billion crowns, of which almost 4.8 billion could cover subsidies from the European Union by 2027. The mayor’s deputy Petr Hladík stated that about half of these events could take place. Among them is, for example, the construction of a kindergarten in Sadová Street, two new kindergartens in Nová Zbrojovka or the expansion and modernization of the primary school in Pastviny.
Brno collected projects in the so-called Local Action Plan for the Development of Education II (MAP Brno II). The investment plans are prepared for the period up to 2027. They cover three areas, namely pre-school education, primary education and non-formal education. They do not apply to facilities set up only by the city, but also by other founders.
Of the 202 projects, 62 concern kindergartens, 134 primary schools and six hobby education. Of the costs of almost 6.8 billion, subsidies could cover 4.8 billion and the founders would have to have two billion. “Half of the amount seems realistic to me,” Hladík replied to how much he thought could actually be obtained for the projects. He himself gives great chances to new school buildings.
These include, for example, the plan to build a kindergarten in Sadová Street for 85 million, two kindergartens in the Nová Zbrojovka locality for more than CZK 100 million or a kindergarten in Trnitá for CZK 50 million. Councilor for Education Jaroslav Suchý (KDU-ČSL) also mentioned the expansion and modernization of the primary school in Pastaviny for CZK 140 million or the reconstruction and equipping of classrooms at the Svornosti primary school, where the estimated cost is CZK 50 million.
Brno is setting up 140 kindergartens, attended by about 11,500 children, and around 70 primary schools, which are attended by over 32,000 pupils. However, projects of other founders, such as regions or private entities, can also receive support.
