Ostrov in Karlovy Vary Region is preparing a project for the construction of a sports hall for more than CZK 80 million. The city’s intention is to demolish the hall at the grammar school, which does not meet current requirements, and wants to build a new one in its place. The town hall wants to complete the project this year, after which it will address the possibilities of financing, the deputy mayor of Ostrov Marek Poledníček (nez.) announced yesterday.
The study proposes the construction of a new hall, next to which there will be another building with facilities and sanitary facilities. The city will give two million crowns for project documentation. The finished project will then show the final appearance of the hall and the total costs. Originally, the town hall counted on an amount of around 80 million crowns, given the current prices on the construction market, the price will probably increase, the city will therefore apply for subsidies.
But the project is still awaiting modifications. “With regard to the development of green policy in Europe, the rules have changed that we are obliged to add an element that will efficiently manage energy for each new building, either a heat pump or, for example, photovoltaic panels,” said Poledníček. The city management is currently leaning towards photovoltaics. The hall will primarily take heat from a nearby grammar school.
The sports hall belongs to the physical education unit Ostrov, which is a non-profit interest organization associating eight sports clubs. In addition to the hall, it also rents a ski area with two lifts in Nové Město u Jáchymova.
