Vodafone has doubled 5G coverage to 60 percent of the population since the spring

16 December 2021

Since the spring, the Vodafone operator has doubled the coverage of 5G networks to 60 percent of the domestic population. At the same time, it is ten percentage points more than in the previous month. 5G-enabled phones currently account for almost two-thirds of devices sold, Vodafone announced.

For the competing T-Mobile, coverage should reach 25 percent of the population by the end of the year. O2 currently covers half of Prague and about 70 other cities in the Czech Republic with the 5G network. It wants to cover the whole of Prague next year and the Czech Republic within three years.

The number of phones sold with the support of 5G networks in January to November increased by 1,782 percent year-on-year at Vodafone, ie almost twenty times. Prices of 5G phones start at CZK 5,500.

“Phone sales are nowhere near the biggest e-shops, for example we sold tens of thousands of mobile phones in November. Still, this is a large sample that shows a clear trend towards 5G. In addition, sales are growing despite limited supply in the market. lack of components at most electronics suppliers,” said Jakub Králík, Vodafone’s terminal equipment portfolio manager.

The advantage of 5G networks is not only high connection speed, but above all almost zero delay and stable quality, which is guaranteed by many times the network capacity than usual. This is important, for example, for industry, where 5G will enable data transfer from a large number of industrial sensors, automate manual processes, cut cords and interconnect intelligent factories.
