Liberec hospital is looking for a builder for its CZK 2 billion pavillion

9 December 2021

The Liberec Regional Hospital has started looking for a company in the competition to build a six-storey emergency medicine center with a parking house on its premises near Husova Street. The maximum set price for the construction is CZK 2.2 billion. Companies can send bids until January 18 next year. Petr Moos, who is in charge of the modernization project.

Moos has no fear that the hospital will not receive an offer below the maximum price. “Originally, we had a cut-off price of 1.99 billion, and when we looked at developments in construction work prices for medical buildings, we came to the conclusion that the extra 200 million covered this move,” he said. After taking into account the costs of project preparation, relocation of utilities, land purchases, equipment and acquisition of equipment, the total price for a new pavilion with a parking house should be around CZK 3.4 billion.

The hospital, which is the largest in the Liberec Region, has been preparing the construction of an emergency care center for more than ten years. This is one of the reasons why the general director of the hospital, Richard Lukáš, sees the announcement of the competition as a milestone. “It seems to me that now we are putting the child in the cradle or some basket upstream and now, let him float. And I hope that he will not encounter any beliefs, weirs and various obstacles, that he will pass without problems with the Office and CRR and with all others. Let us really be able to start construction, for example in the second quarter of next year, by signing a contract with the general contractor,” said Lukáš.

If there are no complications, the construction should be completed in 2025. The first to come is a parking house for 330 cars. “That’s because we have an energy center in it. That energy center will supply this whole area,” Moos said. Only when it will be possible to connect the entire hospital to it will the construction of the emergency care pavilion begin. It will be about 120 meters long, about 40 meters wide and 27 meters high. There will be operating rooms, laboratories and a bed part. “It’s all connected in such a way that the patient and the bed move as little as possible, so that the burden on the patient’s body is as small as possible. that in the Czech Republic it will be a model for other hospitals, as the individual disciplines of emergency medicine are well connected,” added Moos.

The hospital urgently needs an emergency medicine pavilion. It does not yet have a single income, nor do central laboratories. The number of parking spaces is also insufficient. The hospital’s activities are also complicated by the fact that the wards are divided into 38 buildings, which are not even suitable for construction. A substantial part of the construction costs will be paid by the Liberec Region, which is the majority owner of the hospital. He’ll take a loan for it. He wants to borrow CZK 1.3 billion with a maturity of ten years. Minority shareholders the cities of Liberec and Turnov, as well as the hospital itself will also contribute financially to the construction. It also seeks European subsidies, so far it has a promise of 300 million.
