Pardubice needs to evict the last tenants due to the construction of Terminal B

2 November 2021

Pardubice will invite the tenants of the last two inhabited flats in an apartment building on Jana Pernera Square to move out temporarily. Due to the construction of bus terminal B in the neighborhood, it will be necessary to demolish two of the three entrances of the building. After the completion of the modifications, the tenants will be able to return, but so far they refuse to move out, Mayor Martin Charvát (YES).

“The house, as it will be demolished, will have to be disconnected from sources, ie electricity, gas, water and central heating, and be completely empty. Unfortunately, we did not reach an agreement with the tenants, so we approved the call and passed it on to lawyers who will negotiate with their legal representative,” said Charvát.

The two entrances of the apartment building must be demolished in order to create a passage between Terminal B and the area in front of the railway station, where buses and public transport trolleybuses stop. During the construction period, Pardubice proposed to the tenants alternative housing and moving at the city’s expense. Construction should begin in the spring of 2022, they should return to their apartments after about a year. Three people live in two apartments. There is also a municipal police station on the ground floor, which will also have to move temporarily.

Terminal B for regional bus transport is to replace the bus station acquired by a private investor. It is to begin gradually in 2023 and 2024. The builders will build the terminal without the originally planned operating building that would separate it from the neighboring railway station. It was to stand on the site of two-thirds of the former apartment building, which will be demolished. The city opted for this change to save costs. In the future, the western part of Jana Pernera Square near the station should be completed differently.

The original variant with an operating building was to cost about CZK 175 million, the variant without it will cost the city budget more than CZK 50 million cheaper. In both cases, it will be necessary to demolish two thirds of the former apartment building.
