Inflow of FDI to Poland increased by 4% y / y to PLN 53.9 billion in 2020

The net inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) to Poland amounted to PLN 53.9 billion in 2020 compared to PLN 51.87 billion, i.e. increased by 4% y / y, according to data from National Bank of Poland (NBP).

In 2020, the inflow of net capital from foreign direct investment amounted to PLN 53.9 billion. It was composed of reinvestments of profits worth PLN 44.2 billion and the inflow of capital from shares and other forms of equity participation (PLN 16.8 billion) , with a simultaneous outflow from debt financial instruments in the amount of (PLN -7.0 billion), according the publication” Foreign direct investments in Poland in 2020 “.

In 2020, foreign direct investments went primarily to entities involved in industrial processing (PLN 12.9 billion), professional activities (PLN 9.4 billion), and real estate services (PLN 9.2 billion), the central bank reported.

The outflow of capital was recorded in the case of entities involved in construction (PLN -1.6 billion).

A high share of reinvested profits was recorded in the case of countries with the largest amounts of liabilities due to inward direct investment in Poland, ie Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, it was also stated.

The income of foreign direct investors from direct investments made in Poland in 2020 amounted to PLN 84.2 billion. Dividends amounted to PLN 32.5 billion, reinvested profits were PLN 44.2 billion, and income from debt financial instruments ( interest) reached the value of PLN 7.6 billion.

In 2020, the highest revenues were generated by direct investors from the Netherlands (PLN 22.3 billion), Germany (PLN 16.3 billion), Luxembourg (PLN 11.9 billion) and France (PLN 6.0 billion).

In the geographical breakdown of foreign investors, a significant share of investments from countries where special purpose entities used for investment in Poland are registered, as evidenced by the amounts of liabilities recorded to investors from the Netherlands (PLN 190.6 billion) and Luxembourg (112.7 The leading investors are also countries that invest without intermediaries, such as Germany (PLN 166.8 billion) and France (PLN 78.7 billion).
