Polish direct investments abroad fell by 29% y / y to PLN 5.05 billion in 2020

Polish direct investments abroad amounted to PLN 5.05 billion in 2020 compared to PLN 7.12 billion in 2019, which means a decrease by 29% y / y, the National Bank of Poland ( NBP).

In 2020, the outflow of capital due to Polish direct investment abroad amounted to PLN 5.1 billion. The structure of this outflow was dominated by debt financial instruments (PLN 3.2 billion) and positive reinvestment of profits (PLN 2.2 billion). negative transactions in the form of shares and other forms of equity participation (-0.4 billion PLN), according to the NBP publication “Polish direct investments abroad in 2020”.

The largest foreign direct investment transactions by Polish residents took place in Sweden (PLN 1.6 billion), Cyprus (PLN 1.1 billion) and the Czech Republic (PLN 0.7 billion). Capital from Polish direct investments was withdrawn from Hungary (PLN -1.4 billion), which resulted from the reorganization of one of the global pharmaceutical groups, the central bank reported.

In 2020, the capital from Polish direct investments abroad went primarily to foreign direct investment entities related to financial activities (PLN 2.1 billion, section K) and industrial processing (PLN 1.9 billion, section C).

The income of Polish direct investors from direct investment abroad in 2020 reached the value of PLN 5.7 billion. Declared dividends amounted to PLN 2.6 billion, reinvested profits amounted to PLN 2.2 billion, while income from debt financial instruments (interest) amounted to PLN 0.9 billion. The data from the last four years seem to indicate that income has stabilized both in terms of its level and structure. This process has not been disturbed even during the coronavirus pandemic, it also said.
