Former Deputy Chief of General Staff Jiří Verner has become the director of the Swedish company Saab for the Czechia and Slovakia. He will replace Vladimír Ficenc and will be in charge of the company’s business activities in both countries and its growth in local markets. The company, which offers products or services from military defense to civil security, announced. The Czech army has in its armament from the company, for example, RBS air defense systems or Jas-39 Gripen fighters, the company also provides the army with logistical support for the ARTHUR artillery system.
Verner, a graduate of the Military University in Košice, has been a pilot since 1985. He held a number of commanding positions in the army, including commander of the 21st Tactical Air Force Base in Čáslav and commander of the Czech Army Air Force. He also served on NATO’s international staff in Brussels. He was also one of the first Czech pilots to fly the new Gripen.
Ficenc, who will be replaced by Verner, after 10 years at Saab, is retiring, the company said.
Founded in 2007, Saab Technologies is a Swedish-based subsidiary of Saab AB, which manufactures weapons systems and fighter jets, including Gripen aircraft. In the field of civil security, the company in the Czech Republic was, for example, a supplier of mobile SMR radar for Prague’s Ruzyně Airport .
