Personnel Service: According to 68% of companies, automation will reduce employment

12 May 2021

68% of entrepreneurs agree with the statement that the automation implemented in the company will contribute to the reduction of employment, according to the “Polish Labor Market Barometer” of Personnel Service. These concerns are shared by only 20% of workers, even though 18% of employees know someone who has lost their job in a pandemic due to advancing technology.

“The list of positions most exposed to automation includes, among others, data entry specialists, secretaries, accountants, factory workers and HR specialists. At the same time, experts expect an increase in demand for data analysts, AI specialists, machine learning and big data. specializations in which we must educate young people and convince employees that it is worth acquiring competences in these areas. First, however, the key is to define the challenges in the Polish labor market in detail “- said Krzysztof Inglot, President of Personnel Service.

According to 68% of companies, the automation implemented in the enterprise will contribute to the reduction of the employment level. Every fourth entrepreneur is of the opposite opinion. It is worth noting that in the previous edition of the study, these proportions were opposite. 61% of companies assumed that automation would not affect the employment level, and 30% were of the opposite opinion. This shows how much the development of new technologies has accelerated since the beginning of the pandemic and how the approach of companies has changed over the course of the year. Currently, entrepreneurs have no doubts that the labor market will undergo a fundamental change due to the development of modern technologies.

However, there is a great awareness of companies related to the need to train employees and adapt their skills to the changing needs of the labor market. 46% of enterprises plan training for their staff in the use of new devices and systems, and 28% want to retrain some of the staff in order to keep them in the company. However, employers expect that they will be able to count on government support when it comes to retraining employees – almost every second employer believes this. 13% say retraining is solely a government responsibility and 23% only companies are responsible for retraining.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) report, cited by the Personnel Service, shows that automation will contribute to the liquidation of 85 million jobs by 2025. Meanwhile, 64% of Poles are not afraid that its introduction may take away their jobs. Every fifth employee worries about it.

“The vast majority of working Poles are not afraid of losing their jobs as a result of digitization and automation in their companies. They perceive bots not as a threat, but as a supplement to human skills. Also, managers and entrepreneurs increasingly expect their employees to be more creative and individual than boring. repeating the same routine activities. This does not mean that you should not worry about the upcoming revolution. Already today employees and entrepreneurs should consider what skills will be required on the labor market in the near future “- summed up the vice-president of Abile Consulting Mariusz Gołębiewski.
