Deputies will meet again to approve building codes

12 May 2021

Deputies will meet again today to approve a draft of a new building law, which, according to the government, is to speed up building permits. In the past two acts of the House Final, legislators did not even get to vote on dozens of amendments.

In the afternoon, a meeting is convened on the drafts in the second and first readings. These include the electronicisation of notarial activities, an amendment to electronic communications and the tightening of the payment of benefits in material need. MEPs will also discuss bills on identity cards, the introduction of a digital tax and the protection of whistleblowers.

Disputes over the Building Act stem mainly from different perspectives on the organization of building authorities. In the Chamber of Deputies, the original proposal of the Ministry for Regional Development has been given priority so far, which envisages that the building administration will fall purely under the state. However, part of the opposition, consisting of the ODS, Pirates, STAN, KDU-ČSL and TOP 09, is pushing for its proposal, which preserves the building authorities under the municipalities.
