KPMG: 81% of Poles will settle their PIT over the Internet this year

PIT tax will be settled online by 81% of taxpayers, i.e. by 6 percentage points. more than a year earlier, according to a KPMG report. The most popular method of submitting tax returns online is the Your e-PIT service, used by 57% of Poles.

The vast majority of Poles have already submitted their PIT for the previous year. In February, 31% of Poles were settled, and in March, 48% of taxpayers. 18% of Poles declared that they would submit their annual tax return in April.

Online settlements with the tax office are becoming more and more popular every year. 81% of Poles intend to use this form of filing a tax return this year, which means an increase of 6 percentage points compared to last year. 57% of taxpayers paying online will use the Your e-PIT service, and 43% of the e-declarations system.

KPMG points out that the Your e-PIT service is most often used by the youngest Poles – already 8 out of 10 taxpayers up to 24 years old settle their tax in this way.

Virtually all taxpayers (98% of responses) who submitted a PIT tax return for 2020 using the Twój e-PIT service assessed it strongly or rather positively, recognizing the system as friendly and transparent. Contrary to the previous edition of the KPMG survey, taxpayers most often (59% of responses) logged in to the Twój e-PIT system using a trusted profile, which means an increase by as much as 21 percentage points compared to the previous year.29% of Poles authenticated their identity using identification data such as: PESEL number, name and surname and the amount of income in the tax return for 2019.

Nearly 8 out of 10 taxpayers intend to share their 1% of tax with a public benefit organization, which they most often choose based on the suggestion of friends or family. 46% of respondents want to use the deduction option in their annual tax return, the most popular is the tax relief for children.

8 out of 10 Poles who are obliged to settle accounts with the tax office settle accounts at the place of residence, which is also the place of residence. Most Poles (57%) pay their taxes individually, 39% of taxpayers submit a joint tax return with their spouse, and 4% as single parents.

In tax settlements for 2020, the taxpayer can take advantage of the reliefs that were introduced in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic. Such reliefs are, inter alia, donation to fight the pandemic and reduction of income obtained in 2019 by loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
