Production in the construction industry in the Czech Republic fell by 11 percent year on year in February. This is the most significant year-on-year decline since July 2016. This follows from data published today by the Czech Statistical Office (CSO). In January, the year-on-year decline in construction output after the revision was 7.7 percent. Statistics fell even in most months of last year, with construction output growing in 2020 only in January to March. Last March, an epidemic of covid-19 began in the Czech Republic, which has since restricted the movement of people, trade or services.
The February decline in construction was due to a decline in production in building construction, which decreased by 13.8 percent compared to the same month last year. On the other hand, the production of civil engineering, which includes, for example, road and railway construction, increased slightly year-on-year, by 0.8 percent.
