Kościński: For now, tax free amount will increase to PLN 15,000-20,000

8 April 2021

As part of the New Deal, a gradual increase in the PIT tax-free amount is planned to 15,000-20,000. PLN, and the level of 30 thousand. PLN may be achieved after the pandemic, said Tadeusz Kościński, Minister of Finance, Funds and Regional Policy. He confirmed that the tax thresholds will also be raised, but to a lesser extent than according to media reports.

“I cannot confirm this [that the free amount would increase to PLN 30,000], I would be surprised if it was at this level. […] This is one of the variants we have prepared. But I would not put the most money on such a variant, rather – to a lower level, at 15,000-20,000 at the moment, and only in one or two years, when we come out of the pandemic, then we can have greater ambitions “- said Kościński in Sygnały Dnia in radio Jedynka.

According to yesterday’s Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, the “tax revolution” would consist of three elements: apart from increasing the tax exempt amount, it would also raise the second tax threshold to PLN 120,000. PLN out of the current 85 thousand. PLN, and the third – liquidation or significant reduction of the tax deduction in PIT health insurance.

Regarding the deduction of health insurance contributions, the minister said he was not aware of this.

On the other hand, when it comes to the tax thresholds, different options are considered for the first and second thresholds.

“Which options will be chosen by the prime minister – we do not know. This is towards raising the thresholds, but again I would not put too much money on these larger amounts. Remember that public finances are healthy, but this is a relative concept. […] You have to be careful. so that we do not put a strain on public finances, said Kościński.

At the same time, he pointed out that changes in taxes will be aimed at increasing the burden on more earners.

“We have to change the tax system so that the poorer pay less in percentage, and those who earn more – to pay more. Such movements will definitely be in Nová Lada. It is very unfair that whether they are natural persons or enterprises – those that do not pay a fair share of our taxes “- said the minister.

At the same time, he maintained that the current fiscal policy does not involve raising taxes – so as to leave as much money as possible with the citizens, so that they can stimulate the economy by spending it.

“I don’t see the need for us to raise taxes to pay off the debt. On the contrary, we are constantly looking at how we can lower taxes so that more money stays in our pockets. If we spend more, the economy will grow and naturally more taxes will flow into We can get out of this crisis so painlessly “- summed up Kościński.

According to him, the New Deal may be disclosed in late April or early May. However, this date could be postponed by several weeks – depending on the development of the third wave of the pandemic.
