Serbia has adopted a law legalizing trade in digital currencies. The law came into force on December 29, and will be implemented after six months, to inform the public about its implementation. Serbia’s securities regulator first announced the law in October, saying it intends to open the country’s capital market sector and provide new opportunities for citizens. The law was proposed by the regulator in cooperation with the National Bank of Serbia, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economy.

This law regulates the issuance of digital property and secondary trading of digital property in the Republic of Serbia, provision of services related to digital property, lien and confidential right to digital property, the regulator stated, revealing that the law will be applied in cooperation with the National Bank of Serbia.
