Construction on a new 8.5 kilometer section of the D3 motorway between Ceske Budejovice and the Austrian border is due to get underway in 2021, following the approval of its construction permit. The head of the Czech Motorway Authority (RSD) Radek Matl wrote on Twitter that nearly all the land ownership preparations had been completed and that a tender was being carried out for the choice of the contractor. Bids will be accepted until December for the work, which is expected to begin next spring. The RSD is currently building the Ceske Budejovice bypass portion of the D3, which will be ready in 2024, 18 months later than expected. Just 70 kilometers of the D3 is currently operational, meaning there are still 100 to go before it will be possible to drive non-stop from Prague to Austria.
