5 November 2020

The Czech businessman Daniel Kretinsky is expanding his influence in the European railway cargo sector through the acquisition of a 49 percent stake in the Slovenian Railways cargo division. Zdopravy.cz reports that the deal is still awaiting approval by the Slovenski drazvni holding company. Few details have been revealed but it’s thought that the deal could take another six months to close. Slovenia’s rail company has been looking since 2017 for a strategic partner for its cargo division, which is estimated to be worth CZK 2.7 billion. The idea is to create a leading logistics company that would serve southeast Europe, serving Italy, Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Romania and the Balkans. Kretinsky already owns EP Cargo, which specializes in the transport of coal and EP Cargo Invest which invests in locomotives and the leasing of wagons.
