Despite rise in unemployment Hungary’s industry sector lacking manpower

19 October 2020

In Hungary mass redundancies don’t exactly mean that there aren’t shortages for manpower. Despite many people losing their jobs in the tourist sector a recent report by CSO suggests that the manufacturer industry is heavily understaffed. These are mainly production line, operator type jobs, that require little expertise, but at the same time there is a big shortage of skilled labour such as welders, locksmiths, electricians or forklift drivers. The shortages are caused by workers from other countries, mainly Ukrainians and Serbs, who worked in the automotive industry, who returned home during the first wave of the Covid-19 epidemic. Experts suggest that despite demand it won’t be possible to fill those positions with Hungarian labour force.
